Campus Programming
Promise Program
The WCU Promise Program is a campus support program serving unaccompanied homeless and foster youth. The program supports students with access to year-round housing on campus, food and supplies from the Resource Pantry, priority employment opportunities, access to scholarship funds, and monthly programming that provides mentorship and opportunities to engage with peers and guest speakers.
Program Coordinator Ian Davis (idavis@wcupa.edu) supports students with emergency funding, priority registration, coordinating and moving into year-round housing options, programming including monthly check-ins and holiday events, and referrals to support services as needed including tutoring, success coaches, and counseling.
Students who are currently in or are coming from foster care qualify for the Promise program. Starting 2021-22 Philadelphia Foster Youth may be considered for the Immensitas Scholarship from the Brook J Lenfest Foundation which covers students with a full scholarship after federal and state gift aid.
WCU Compass Program
The COMPASS program is aimed at supporting African American Males currently on academic probation through collaborative efforts at West Chester University. Our institutional efforts to support the academic success of students has resulted in a multi-layered approach. The COMPASS programs for a direct individualized approach with graduate level academic mentors. The weekly meetings allow for the male students to have a safe space in which to trust and share successes, barriers and challenges as a student at West Chester University. This program empowers students to advocate for themselves across the campus.
