Campus Programming

Chesick Scholars Program

The Chesick Scholars Program provides a welcoming community and a suite of workshops, seminars and experiences that have been especially designed for first-generation college students and/or students who come from low-income (FLI) backgrounds. The focus of all Chesick activities is to provide practical guidance for students to achieve their personal, academic and professional goals as part of a supportive community of fellow students, staff and faculty. All first-generation and/or low-income students are automatically Chesick Scholars, but students can pick and choose to commit to any (or all) of the program’s offerings.

The Chesick Scholars Program works with students from the summer before your first year all the way through graduation, from Horizons (our 5-day pre-orientation program for new students) to faculty mentoring for the first two years, to our Chesick Launch programs to help juniors and seniors plan for life after graduation, we are here for you every step of the way!

LIFTAR Program

LIFTFAR was established in 2016 to help low-income students (as determined by their Estimated Family Contribution) deal with costs that arise from unexpected and emergency situations. While the College’s commitment to low-income students finds deepest expression in our financial aid policy, there are often needs that are felt in the regular flow of a student’s life which fall outside the parameters of overall financial aid packages. LIFTFAR aims to help fill these gaps. As of spring 2022, this now includes funding for academic and professional development opportunities that would otherwise be difficult to attain without help.

Following the principle that every student should not merely graduate from Haverford but should thrive during their time here and beyond, LIFTFAR aims to make more accessible the extensive financial, educational, and social resources available on our campus.
